Couples

Couples photography in New York.

Engagements and weddings. A few hours, or the whole day. I stay close, and the pictures should look like the two of you.

A couple in black and white crossing a city crosswalk, her dress and veil caught in the wind.

The day

A few hours, or all of it.

I photograph couples in New York. That can be an engagement in the afternoon, or a wedding from the quiet start to the last street. The crew stays small. It is usually just me.

I plan the frames with you before we walk. Then I shoot while you talk, cross a street, and forget the camera is there. I will ask for a few pictures you can feel. I will not turn the day into a list of poses you have already seen.

The light I want is the light that is already in the room. A late sun on a bridge. Shade on a brownstone block. A window in an apartment. We work with that, instead of fighting it.

The city

Pick a neighborhood.

The city is a good room for two people. A morning by the Brooklyn Bridge, with the water and the skyline behind you. Brooklyn Heights if you want the promenade and the stone. The West Village if you want a narrow street and a dress in the wind.

SoHo at the end of the day, when the cast iron goes warm. Central Park when the paths are quiet. The Upper West Side, near the park, if you want trees and apartment stone. Midtown only if the architecture is the point.

You do not have to know the corner before you write. Tell me how you want the day to feel, and I will suggest a few places that fit the light. A church uptown, if that is the ceremony. A staircase in the apartment, if the day is smaller. A rooftop when you want the skyline close.

After

The gallery is the album.

You get the pictures in a private gallery on Pixieset. That is where proofs, finals, and downloads live. If the gallery has a password, Pixieset asks for it there. This page is the front door. The album is the work.

Couples look different from each other, and the pictures should too. Two people in black in front of a carousel. A pale convertible on a city street. A kiss on a dark stair. I am not selling you a set of frames. I am there for the way your day actually looks.

If you want a date, write and tell me what the day is for. The date, or the window. Engagement or wedding. The neighborhood, if you already love one. I reply from info@cottyphotography.com.

Questions

Before you write.

Where in New York do you photograph couples?

A day can be the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Heights, the West Village, SoHo, Central Park, or the Upper West Side. It can also be a church, an apartment staircase, or a rooftop. We pick the place together.

Is this for engagements, or weddings too?

Both. A few hours, or the whole day. Tell me which one it is when you write.

Where do the pictures go?

Into a private gallery on Pixieset. Proofs, finals, and downloads stay there. If a gallery has a password, Pixieset asks for it there.

How do I book?

Use the inquire page. Tell me the date, the neighborhood if you know it, and whether it is an engagement or a wedding. I reply from info@cottyphotography.com.
